Celebrating 10 Years of Dancing in New Mexico
The North Central New Mexico chapter of USA Dance was founded in October 2005, when our chapter pioneers founded the original steering committee: Ben Porter, Shawna Hollen, Ed Jonas-Morrison, Sally Semm, Caren Waters, and Anna Watkins (currently the chapter president). Our first membership list included all of eight names.
We were officially certified as USA Dance Chapter 5047 on Feb. 28, 2006 — our official birthday. That makes 2016 our 10th anniversary year!
We have grown from the original eight members and one dance per month to more than 145 members and two dances a month. We now average about 80 dancers at our 1st and 3rd Sunday dances, which run from 6-9 p.m.
Our monthly dances include a 40-minute group lesson on the 1st Sunday and a usually a performance or demonstration by local professionals, amateurs or dance groups on the 3rd Sunday. Check out our calendar page to see what's coming up.
We host our dances at the Albuquerque Square Dance Club, 4915 Hawkins Street NE in Albuquerque, an excellent facility for ballroom dancing with a huge wooden dance floor and plenty of parking. Click here for directions.
